The United States, China and Japan are tops with five total medals, though USA and Japan each have just one gold and China has none.

The United States had a strong Saturday in the sw imming pool, winning three medals. All were silver: the womens team in the 4x100m relay race (won by Australia), Chase Kalisz in the mens 400m individual medley (won by Japans Kosuke Hagino) and Maya DiRado in the womens 400m IM (won by Hungarys Katinka Hosszu). The American swimmers didnt enter any of those races as the favorites, and they had good swims to earn their silvers.

The only American gold medal so far comes from the 10m air rifle. West Virginia University freshman Virginia Thrasher put the United States on the board with a close win against Chinas Du Li. Heres the video of Thrashers win:
